    good website.Very informative.

  2. Thanks, Sarah. What a coincidence that we have the same surname! It certainly isn’t because we’re related.

    Hi Paul,

great to have found your blog.

Would you like to write a guest blog on sourgrapes.ie to introduce yourself and get some nice traffic to your website?

I’d love to get a guest series going.

    Lar

  5. Hi Lar,

Thanks for dropping by. Yeah, I’d love to do a guest blog, thanks for the kind invitation! I’m away for a few days but I’ll get back in touch with you after the weekend.

    Take it easy!

    Paul.

    Hi Paul,

Foud your card in my wallet here (next to a card for somewhere called “Au Chat Qui Peche!”) and thought I’d check out your site. Excellent stuff I must say!
Back in Blighty now after our little excursion which I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed. I feel I learnt a lot about the real Bordeaux too.

Keep up the good work and I’ll give you a bell the next time I flit across to the Emerald Isle.

    TTFN,

    Charles

  7. Hey Charles.

Yeah, definitely look me up next time you come over here.

Check back to the blog over the next week, as I’m arranging an interview with that woman from Saint-Croix-du-Mont who sat in on our dinner in Graves that night.

    Take it easy, Charles!

    Paul.

  8. Kevin Ecock Says:

    Hi Paul,

Website is looking good and I’ve been enjoying following along. I know you move to Cork very soon but hope to stay in touch with classes etc. I sent you some info on a wine event this weekend that you may be interested in for charity. Either way…..hope life is good!!

  11. Hey Colin. I didn’t get any info!!! Did you email it to me or what?

  12. Hi Paul

  13. Hey Robert / Frank. Thanks for stopping by and, of course, I’d be much obliged if you’d mention me in your piece. Is it Frank or Robert? I check into your site every few days. Congrats on the new baby again!

  14. Fi Says:

Did nobody tell you that the vintage is now run by the guy who used to be at the spinnaker – a simple menu and wine list – the original owners left a couple of years ago and the place is now on the third set of owners in as many years.

  15. Wow, no I didn’t know that, thanks very much, Fi. In that case the wine list is terrible there – by any standards!

  16. Katty Says:

maybe i know when did u have dinner at Foley’s seafood restaurant. I found your review very interesting

  17. Hello Katty,

I ate there at the start of March. It was a cold, rainy night! By the way, you have the same name as my cat! Spooky.

    Have you been to Foleys?

  18. Sarah Kiernan Says:

Heading down to cork city at end of month for few days, feel free to recommend a few nice places to go out.cheers,

    Hi Paul,
WRT the caricature -type picture of the champagne cork hitting the guys head on your website, do you have a copyright on this pic?
    http://pauljkiernan.wordpress.com/tag/champagne/

It’s an awesome pic and i would really like to use it for another purpose on a website I’m designing.
I would also gladly leave the signature on it.

    Many Thanks,
    Dave

  20. Hi Dave,

No, I am afraid I don’t have copyright on that image. That is from the early days of the blog before I started taking my own pictures.

I’m not sure what the original source is. I got it through “Google Image”, but when I search it again I just get my own website!

Anyway, I have absolutely no problem if you would like to use it although, as I said, it isn’t actually mine!

Best of luck with your site, Dave.

    Paul.

  21. Hey Paul,
Just visiting your site here. Love the Photos and the commentary about them. Read your wine reviews, very witty and informative. I just love the way you write. You have a gift here. Nice to see you making a living doing what you love. I laughed outloud about the Marley and Me comment about the sequel. Well said! So funny!
    All the Best,
    Deborah

  22. Hi Deborah,

Nice to hear from you. Hope you’re getting on okay over there.

Cath and I are just back from west Cork (John’s 60th birthday). Great night but, as per usual for the day after these events, I’m quite “tender”!

  23. Hi Paul, just a quick note on the Harvest Offer available in the Wine Buff shops nationwide. We have noticed that many customers who purchased our mid price range 18 months ago, have continued to be loyal customers but now regularly purchase wines in our value range.

Following lengthy discussions with our suppliers, we are making a limited quantity of each of these wines available. Many of the best selling wines since our inception in this range are included, along with some extra special wines that are usually purchased only on very special occasions.

You can view the offer online at http://www.thewinebuff.com/aboutus/news.php?newsID=38

    Cheers

    Mike

  24. Thanks for that, Mike. Some good prices there alright. I broadcast the link through my Twitter network. Hopefully I’ll get in myself at some stage too to pick up a couple of bottles.

    Talk soon, Mike!

Paul, have a look at the coddlepot blog today. It features one of the Hoffs of Athlone. A close relation surely??

  26. Yes, people *have* mistaken me for the Hoff before, I must confess. What usually clears up the confusion is a quick look at my vehicle which, while it makes quite a lot of noise, can’t actually speak.

  27. Photo of me with bendy pink wine by Morgan Fagg of Athlone.

    A contrivance at best:

    The department of Lot,
    while lacking in boar;
    is lesser well known
    for it’s produce, Cahors,
    (Rather more for it’s role
    in the 100 Year’s war;
    The warrest of wars
    one ever did saw’r)
And quaff though they all did
    their finest black vin
    from the smallest of childers
    to tallest of man

But ‘twas not for the masses
    this juice of Malbec
    all body, robust
    though best served avec
    the finest of pork
    best bred for to gore!
    Then let us feast now,
    On boars and Ca-hors!
